Felixstowe - Summer Fun
Come and enjoy summer in the seaside town of Felixstowe...
Felixstowe has a beach for everyone. Four miles of sand and shingle, with some of the best bathing water quality around Suffolk too. Enjoy a picnic on the sands. Bring your bucket and spade and create a sandcastle masterpiece. Take a little paddle, or a full refreshing dip in the sea. Play some seaside games.
Go beachcombing... shells, starfish and mermaid purses. Beach Bonkers has fun and educational walks on Saturday 5 August (1430 and 1530); Saturday 12 August (1000 and 1100); Saturday 19 August (1430 and 1530); and Saturday 2 September (1430 and 1530). Meet at the Visit Felixstowe Tourist Information Centre beach hut, opposite the Town Hall.
A stroll along the prom will take you past award winning gardens and multi-coloured beach huts. Make sure you stop off to tuck into a cooling artisan ice cream or some yummy fish and chips. Look out for the Visit Felixstowe Tourist Information Centre beach huts (near the Town Hall and within Martello Park) where you can pick up leaflets and maps.
Don’t forget to bring your loose change for traditional seafront arcades, and try your luck on a ‘penny pusher’ or ‘grab arm’ to win a teddy or two. At Ocean Boulevard, kids will love the drifting karts, or why not challenge yourself to a round of Adventure Golf, amongst the flowers and lost world statues? Set right beside the sea, Martello Park is the place to swing, slide, climb and get wet with fun play areas. At Manning's Amusements 'scream if you want to go faster' on the traditional waltzer and other rides.
Don’t miss the Felixstowe Carnival running from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 July, with its colourful procession of floats and bands, live music, family entertainment, stalls and fireworks on the seafront. The Spa Pavilion is holding The Great British Seaside Special on Thursdays 3 and 17 August (1415). A show for all the family, with comedy, music, dance and magic! Children and adults alike can enjoy the free art activity tents at Art on the Prom - the annual contemporary art fair with over 100 artists from East Anglia set along the seafront on Sunday 3 September.
A great way to explore the town is to jump aboard the Summer Open Top Bus Tours, running on Wednesdays and Sundays from the 26 July to 30 August. Hop on and off at different stops with tickets valid all day.
One of the stops along the way is the hugely popular Landguard Peninsula. Join in the fun Summer Holiday Trail (Saturday 22 July to Sunday 3 September) at the historic Landguard Fort, where you can also play a game of hide and seek in the maze of rooms and passageways. Next door, at the Felixstowe Museum, discover the Cartoons and Comics Trail on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from the 2 to 31 August. Shaun the Sheep, Mickey Mouse and Captain America!
