At Home in Felixstowe

April 7, 2022

Despite the instant and apparently easy appeal of online sales, when buying for your home there is no substitute for actually seeing and feeling your prospective new bed, carpet, or furniture to show off your home and make you feel comfortable. Comfort that comes from the mattress perfectly matched to your needs to supporting your local independent retailers who source beds, rugs, carpets, and bespoke furniture that definitely won’t need an allen key nor a degree in domestic construction to put together.

Wouldn’t you rather find your next home purchase right here in Felixstowe? We talked to a few of our popular retailers who thrive on their outstanding customer service.

Kitz Home Furniture

Next door to The Crescent Café and adjacent to the town centre’s largest car park, is family owned and run home furniture shop, Kitz. More of a showcase of their huge range of furniture, the shop is an extension of their online business, which has been going from strength to strength in their two years of trading. At the helm, manager, Michael Bridges explains the importance of getting the right product for his clients, with a purchase like a mattress, a little investigation can make all the difference to customer and, more importantly, a good night’s sleep. Michael works alongside Dad, Marc Bridges, who takes care of the accounting side of the business.

Looking around their showroom, Michael shows off their ‘Triple Sleeper’ children’s bed, cleverly proportioned to optimise space and storage. Their ‘Build Your Own Bed’ service is an extremely clever solution for differing needs, and you can choose bed height, headboard style, colour, ottoman, or drawer as well as a massive choice from dozens of mattress options.

“We spend a lot of time making sure that we get the right product and the right fit for our customers,” Michael explains which would account for the customer loyalty and repeat business that Michael and Marc attract.

As well as bed specialists, Kitz also supply bedroom, living room and home office furniture. Great to see free delivery on orders over £149.99 and free local assembly on furniture orders.

If you are a Felixstowe dweller or visitor of a certain age, Suffolk House, home of Greyfriars, will be known to you as Wakelins Toy Shop in the 60’s and 70’s. Greyfriars has occupied the building since 1986, but celebrated 50 years of trading last year, with its origins in the long forgotten Greyfriars market in Ipswich – hence the name.

A well-established supplier and fitters of carpet, vinyl, LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles), wood and laminate, Greyfriars also have our entire first floor dedicated to beds, mattresses, and headboards, but a visit to their Hamilton Road showroom reveals a massive and varied selection of flooring options and samples that you just can’t get a feel of online that has made their name.

We asked manager, Nathan White, about the long standing Felixstowe high street presence and how they manage to compete against the home wares chain stores. Nathan explains “We have a loyal customer base which spans generations of families, we are conscious of providing great service as well as competitive prices – people are often surprised that our prices beat the chain stores.”

With a team of eight, Greyfriars offer a fitting service for all the flooring they supply, and all their beds are delivered and assembled as part of the service.
They can also assist customers by moving furniture, removing old carpets and beds as well for a small charge.

Nathan and the team continue to grow and would like to thank the people of Felixstowe for supporting them throughout the pandemic.
