Beauty and the Beach: New salon launched in Felixstowe

March 12, 2022

Our town is famed for its restorative qualities, just ask the early morning swimmers who brave the icy North Sea daily. For those of us that favour a more sedate approach to a bit of pampering and enhancing our natural beauty, there are far more comfortable methods.

Pass me another cushion, top up my Earl Grey, I’m just going to sit here and let someone clever and qualified manage my personal aesthetics. What a choice we have.

Leave no hot stone unturned as we share a few we went to chat to….

A fresh, new salon in Great Eastern Square will welcome passing tourists, shoppers and attract regulars as well as adding to the atmosphere of our little shopping and eating area, which is starting to spring into its own after looking a little empty here and there lately.

Local beautician, Hayley Fox, comes from a Suffolk beauty salon background and decided to go self-employed when the pandemic scuppered many therapy businesses. Her success was such that she decided to open her own enterprise, with the reduction in restrictions, and make the most of the location in Felixstowe with a brand new salon.

A clean white and gold colour scheme spills into the sumptuous treatment chairs, Hollywood style mirrors and light drenched central salon area.
Hayley is working with three technicians, who all specialise in different areas.
“Brows and nails will probably be the main demand,” Hayley tells us
“We are very excited to offer the Biosculpture gel brand, the first of its kind to come to Felixstowe,” she continues.

Open Tuesday to Sunday, pop in for nails, gels, lashes, and Urban Retreat environmentally friendly facial products. Visit the website for a full list of treatments available.

The Glow empire has quietly grown over the years. Glow The Hair Specialists, Glow the Beauty Specialists and Glow Occasion Hair Specialist really are sister companies in the truest sense as Hollie runs Glow The Hair Specialist, while sister Sophie heads up the Glow The Beauty Specialist.

There’s a real family feel to the salon, and the staff of both arms of the business often get together in and out of work. The pandemic obviously impacted on business, but clients are now returning to a much missed beauty routine.

“We’ve always used PPE, we just had to step up cleansing between clients, which adds 15 minutes between appointments,” explains Hollie. With six stylists and seven beauty therapists, the salon is often bustling with creativity. Prefer a little more quiet? There’s a separate room with wifi, where you can either get on with some work or just soak up the peace.

A Novalash specialist, Glow also work with the likes of Guinot and Gigi. The sisters are delighted to be finalists in the English Hair & Beauty awards.

The Salon by Jennifer Louise

Overlooking the 4th fairway of one of the most famous golf links courses in the country is not a bad view, if you ask us. Jennifer Pearson, 15 years in the business after a Harley Street training, had been running The Salon in the town centre, but the opportunity came up to relocate nearer her home and reduce the impact of that endless juggle with her three children. Dad Andrew built the beautiful chalet style salon (it smells like a pine forest!) with 2 treatment rooms and a deck. The summer possibilities are yet to be enjoyed.

Jennifer explains: “Running a hair salon with beauty, tanning and aesthetics treatments makes us a real one stop shop, we also offer training.”

Hidden upstairs on busy Hamilton Road, you might miss the door to Sirens, but the many regulars know exactly where to find it. With 17 years high street presence and perhaps one of the longest established, Sirens Health & Beauty Retreat is constantly booked up in advance which is a testimony to Clare and Team’s popularity.

Clare tells us: “This June I will have been qualified 30 years. We are now using Eve Taylor London products which is a British Aromatherapy natural skincare product line that’s been established since the 1960s. This is to help reduce our carbon footprint as for every product sold, they plant a tree!”

Clare also specialises in Facial and Massage treatments especially for clients that have or are going through oncology treatment. She also offers prescriptive massage for concerns such as menopause, detox and well-being.

Clare also has regular freelance specialists such as an osteopath, chiropodist, make up artist and wedding hair dresser to complete her beauty and wellbeing treatments.
