At the top of Bent Hill, in Hamilton Road, Nutshells By The Sea opened its doors in September 2022 after a devastating fire left their original café in Stowupland in ruins back in January.
With a loyal customer base that has supported the new venture, even helping out with painting and last minute preparations, Ian and Jill Booth’s Nutshells By The Sea has brought only goodwill as well as their classic traditional café menu featuring cream teas, home-made cakes, scones, sandwiches, jackets, soups and snacks to Felixstowe and have now added a keen local following to their customer base as well as visiting drop ins who appreciate a little refreshment between town centre and seafront,
“The Comeback is always stronger than the setback”. A quote that is as poignant as it is inspirational sits proudly on the wall overlooking the cosy and clean wood and white décor that provides the perfect backdrop to a light lunch, coffee with friends or afternoon tea. Jill and Ian are welcoming hosts and the entire team, Michelle, Ebony and Zoe, have a strong ethos of customer service that portrays a bit of personality and a genuine drive to make you feel welcome.
Sourcing products locally for the café, Ian and Jill also stock an extensive selection of local biscuits, sauces, crisps, and other treats with a notable import being Mrs Darlington’s preserves, which are exclusive to the town.
It’s great to see the former iconic Bonnet’s café filled with early success. Neighbours Livia’s Boutique and The Card Centre are delighted to enjoy an increase in visitors to this end of the town, and next-door neighbours, Glow The Beauty Specialists, have created a Mother’s Day collaboration with the café.
