The Wine Boutique

Watching at home? Grab a treat from the Wine Boutique!

If you prefer to follow the Six Nations from the comfort of your own sofa, then why not pop into see our very own curator of the carafe and advisor of ales right here in Felixstowe to set you up for the games?

Samantha Bullard, manager at the Wine Boutique in Hamilton Road has impeccable wine and hospitality pedigrees. Her knowledge and advice are a welcome relief for the bewildered imbiber, and let’s face it, there are a lot of bottles to browse through on the shelves of The Wine Boutique.

Famed for its direct relationship with vineyards and wine growers, The Wine Boutique offers wine for every palate as well as a range of speciality beers and craft ales. The Wine Boutique is a wine shop you can drink in, rather than a wine bar, and has carved its own niche in our high street.

Here are Sammy’s ‘6 Nations Recommendations’ to take home:

  • Red – Montelpulciano, Jasci and Marchesani. Fruity with peppercorns in style
  • White –  Grauer Burgunder, Heinrich Gies. German for Pinot Grigiot, but more full bodied and elegant
  • Deya Dipa – 8% Pale, IPA style. Smooth with fruit and a kick
  • Idaho fog – New England IPA. Extra Pale, flaked oats, stone fruit
  • St Feuillien Grand Cru – Classic Belgian blond

Alternatively, The Wine Boutique always three draught ales on tap. Pop in and try one or take a container to enjoy home.

Owl & Pussycat

Showing all the matches this weekend, The Owl & Pussycat, right next to Morrisons on Grange Farm Avenue, has a reputation for hospitality and family appeal. Manager, Paul Hodgin, took over ‘The Owl’ in January 2020, shortly before the first lockdown.

Paul admits that there have been really difficult times recently with the regulations in place over hospitality, but since summer last year Paul and wife Maggie have really been able to put their stamp on the popular community pub.

The couple have recently created a dedicated Sports Bar area where they can stream Sky and BT Sports, showing all the live events as they happen. There is also a pool table and dart board there for guests which has proved to be extremely popular.

“We cater for a lot of different people and demographics within our pub,” explains Paul.

The 147 Club – Sports Bar & Snooker Hall

The Club has a state-of-the-art members’ sports bar, and will be streaming the games on a number of big, HD screens so you can watch the action whilst enjoying something from the well-stocked bar and tasty food menu.

After the game, maybe enjoy a game of  snooker, pool or darts and watch the sun set from the terrace.
